About Us | Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary

History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History

Riggle Waltermann Mortuary has a long history of helping those in need, dating back to 1910 when we were known as Jordan, McManus, Hunt, & Waltermann on Main Street in Downtown Richmond. We moved to our current location, 32 South 11th St, in 1918.

In the 1930’s Jordan, McManus, and Hunt were gone, and we became Unser & Waltermann. In 1946 George Riggle came to Richmond from western Indiana, and became a partner in the business in 1952.  We then became known as Waltermann – Riggle. In 1960, Joseph Waltermann passed away, and his son Frank took over his father’s ownership role. In 1966, George became principle partner and we became Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. In 1968, George and Frank added a 100 person capacity chapel as well as other major renovations.

In 1972, George’s son Gary came to work at the funeral home. When Frank successfully ran for mayor of Richmond in 1982, Gary partnered with his father. In 2005, they hired Eric Davis through his high school’s internship program, and he started full time in 2008 after he graduated from mortuary school. in 2010.

At Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary, we regard a family’s call to us as a sacred trust…and we make every effort to deserve it. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We give our closest attention to every detail, which reflects our deep regard for the highest standards of our profession.
