Obituary

Charles E. "Chuck" "Charlie" Benner, Jr., age 70, of Richmond, died Tuesday morning (January 4, 2011) at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Richmond on September 28, 1940 to Charles and Mary Jane Champion Benner and had lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of Richmond High School and was a retired employee of the Richmond Police Department. He began working for the Police Department on December 16, 1965 and retired on May 31, 1996 while assigned to the Detective Division and completing a total of 30 years of service. He was employed by Earlham College and had worked security for the Richmond Roosters. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church and of the FOP Lodge. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Nancy Benner; daughters - Kimberly (Duane) Baker, Kerilee (Michael) Emmenegger, Kathy Benner; son - Kyle Benner; brothers - Richard (Carol) Benner, Randy Benner; sister - Dianne (Ron) Severance; grandchildren - Matthew Baker, Meghan Emmenegger; nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday (January 8, 2011) in First English Lutheran Church (2727 East Main St.). Pastor Brian Derrer will officiate. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday (January 7, 2011) from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary and on Saturday one hour before the service at the church.
