Obituary

Dudley G. Ramsey, age 91, died August 17, 2023, surrounded by his family, at Friends Fellowship Community where he had lived for the past 4 ½ years. He was born March 13, 1932, in Richmond, Indiana to Lewis and Winifred Ramsey before the family moved to Greens Fork when he was a teenager. He graduated from Greens Fork High School in 1949 and had been the last surviving member of that class until his death. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, becoming a Staff Sergeant, from 1952-1956. He was stationed on the islands of Japan and Iwo Jima. Dudley moved to Centerville in 1959 following his marriage to Rosemary Smith where they lived and raised their three children until Rosemary's death in 2019. He worked as an engineer at Natco for 40 years, followed by six more years at Natco-Carlton. He was a long-time and active member of the Natco 25-year club, American Legion Post 65, and he maintained friendships with some of his former Natco co-workers until his death. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed fixing things, and watching sports on TV, particularly IU basketball and the Cincinnati Reds.

Survivors include his three children, David (Kelly) Ramsey of Greens Fork; Diane (John) Williams of Richmond; and Robert (Michelle) Ramsey of Centerville; grandchildren Brandon Ramsey and Audrey Wilson; brother-in-law William Denny; sister-in-law Ann Smith, and his special "little sister," Jane Ann Burch of Plantation, FL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Foundation (33 South 7th Street, Richmond, IN; waynecountyfoundation.org) for the Dudley and Rosemary Ramsey Memorial Fund or to the Wayne County Veterans Memorial Park (P.O. Box 2401, Richmond, IN 47375).

The family would like to thank the staff at Friends Fellowship Community for their care of Dudley during his residency there where he developed several close relationships with members of the staff. The family also appreciates the special care and attention provided by Aseracare during the past several months.

A private graveside service, with the Wayne County Honor Guard, will be held at the convenience of the family at the Greens Fork South Cemetery.
