Obituary

Mrs. Raymond E. Swallow Jr. (Elsa) died Tuesday, November 7 at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, where she had lived for the past several years.

Born August 4, 1916, she grew up in Richmond as the middle daughter of architect/builder John W. Mueller, formerly of Indianapolis and Elva Kennard, formerly of Kennard and Spiceland, Indiana. She married Raymond E. (Bud) Swallow, Jr. of Richmond and the couple settled east of Cambridge City, where both were active in community organizations and projects. In 1986 Bud and Elsa moved to the Reeveston area of Richmond.

Formerly an avid and accomplished golfer, Mrs. Swallow remained an enthusiastic bridge player and seamstress. Surrounded by friends and family, this summer she celebrated her 90th birthday with parties in both Richmond and Cambridge City.

A woman of charm and intelligence, Elsa Swallow is survived by her younger sister Martha Davidson of Friends Fellowship in Richmond; her daughter Frances Corsello of Denver, CO; son John R. Swallow (Michelle) of Reston, VA; and former daughter-in-law Barbara Hruza of Estes Park, CO. These grandchildren remember Elsa for her dry wit, her love of hearing and telling good stories, and for her homemade applesauce.

She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and by nephew John Davidson and his wife Debi of Richmond; sister-in-law Joan Swallow Reiter of Borrego Springs, CA; and brother-in-law Charles Swallow and wife Ruth of Indianapolis.

Elsa Swallow was preceded in death by her older sister Louise Stimson, by her son Chuck in 1973, and by her husband Bud in 2003.
