James Finley Peters, 66, was born on September 6, 1957, in Richmond, Indiana to Finley and Maran Peters. Jim was a graduate of Centerville High School. He passed away from a battle with cancer at home surrounded by family on April 8, 2024, in Centerville, Indiana. Jim was married to Lisa (Groves) Peters on February 14, 1987, 37 years.
Jim is survived by his wife Lisa Peters and his son Kyle Peters. He is also survived by his brother Mike (Sandy) Peters, Centerville, Indiana; special honorary children: Matt & Kelsey Brankle; special honorary grandchildren: Winter and Dimitri Bischoff and Amillia, Abby, and Brody Brankle; nephews: Tj Miller, Adam Groves, Chad and Jesse Nolte, Drake Groves; nieces: Amanda Bergfield, Tarah Peters; several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Finley and Maran Peters, Jim was preceded in death by his brother Jeff Peters.
Jim worked for Hamm's Excavating, LS Byrd & Sons Excavating, and Bowen Engineering.
Jim worked for Bowen Engineering for 25 years before retiring in October of 2019 and continued to work off and on until failing health in early 2023.
Jim liked to spend his time coon hunting with long time hunting buddies Joe Warvel, Danny McCord and the Jacksons. He also enjoyed coaching baseball, mushroom hunting, watching NASCAR, gardening, and playing in the dirt. Jim was a Cincinnati Reds and IU basketball fan.
Jim was not a stranger to anyone and had an Army backing him through his battle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Milton Coonhunter's Association.
Per the families request, the visitation and funeral service will be a casually dressed event.
Pastor Allen Henderson will officiate the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 16, at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary, 32 South 11th St. Richmond. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5:00p.m.–8:00p.m. on Monday, April 15, at the funeral home.
