Jerry Keith Irwin, born on September 9, 1937, in Cambridge City, IN, to his loving parents John A. and Dorothy L. Irwin. He lived a fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends until his peaceful passing on April 5, 2024, in Richmond, IN.
Jerry was a true American patriot, serving in the Army and bravely representing his country in Korea and Japan as part of the 7th Division 8th Army. A proud Corporal, Jerry held the American Flag on United Nations Day in Seoul, Korea, with the Honor Guard.
Outside his military service, Jerry excelled in his passions and his life never lacked for adventures. From his days on the Golden Gloves boxing team in high school to his time as a dedicated semi-truck driver for 23 years, retiring at 78 years only due to health issues, not because he wanted to. He was a true car enthusiast, known for his drag racing skills and love for his 1966 Fastback Mustang. Jerry lived for many years in Florida and also California in the 1960's.
Jerry had a vibrant personality and a unique spirit. He had a talent for weightlifting and enjoyed boasting about his latest automotive projects. His family brought him immense joy, and he leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years Belinda; daughters Cindy Thomas, Michelle (Will) Irwin and Kristin Irwin; son Sean Irwin; grandchildren Casey (Andrea) Williams, Rochelle (Jeff) Irwin, Damien (Brandy) Irwin, Andrea Irwin, Camron (Jennifer) Irwin, Amber Thomas, Colton Irwin; siblings Jim (Cynthia) Irwin, Sue Anne Martin, Marilee McDonough; Brother in laws Duane Ellison and Jerry Wright; sister in law Susie Irwin; daughter in law Diane Johnson; great grandchildren Faith, Ben, Cameron, Shakayla, Kristin, Elsie, Helen, Melody, Piper, Jackson, Landon, Makayla; 1 great great grandchild on the way; special friends Todd Elliott, Ron Stanley, Guerry Partain and many more special friends who will forever cherish the memories created with him. He also leaves behind his special "boys" Doogie and Little Boy who were his loving pets.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Tony, daughter Lisa, brother John, son-in-law Gene Sparks, brother-in-law David Glunt, sisters-in-law Cinda Glunt and Brenda Wright; best friend John Mendenhall and father in law and mother in law Herman and Shirley Ellison and special pet Sumo.
The family would like to send a special "Thank you" to the Fire Department and the EMT's for all their kindness during this difficult time.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Friday April 12, 2024, at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary with Military Honors being performed at 6:45pm by the Wayne County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Help the Animals or Veterans Assistance programs.
