JoAnn (Whittington) Mitchell was born to Herbert and Mary Truitt on October 2, 1925 in West Alexandria, Ohio. The family moved to Richmond in 1927 where they remained. JoAnn attended Fairview, Hibberd and Richmond High School as a member of the Class of 43. After graduation, she worked until "D" Day during World War II at the Metal Specialty gauging shells. In 1946, JoAnn married Emmett H. Whittington and lived outside of Hollansburg, Ohio where their company, Whittington Produce, was located. Emmett and JoAnn also raced harness horses throughout the United States and Canada. They were blessed with 5 children, 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Emmett preceded JoAnn in death in 1974. In September 1992, JoAnn married Fred Mitchell and lived outside of Richmond where they owned the Foley-Bellsaw Repair Service until his death in September 2002. Surviving JoAnn are her sons - Terry E. Whittington and wife Letha of Hollansburg, Ohio, Herman Whittington and wife Lynn of Wayne Lakes, Ohio, Darren Whittington and wife Carla of Lynn, Indiana,; daughters - Sherri Burge and husband Tim of Clarksville, Tennessee, Dixie Kerns and husband Carl of Pendleton, Indiana; brother - Herbert (Jack) Truitt and wife Jacque of Richmond, Indiana; sister - Carol Jeffers and husband Jeff of Ramsey, Minnesota Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 31, 2012) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Burial will be in Hollansburg Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Saturday (March 31, 2012) from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
