John Hodel, 83 of Richmond passed away on October 5th at Reid Health after a long illness. He was born on April 30, 1935 to Avis Coulter Hodel and Walter Hodel in Wabash Indiana but moved to Richmond in 1964. He graduated from Wabash High School in 1953 and attended Indiana University. He proudly served in the US Army from 1958-1964 and retired from Equifax Services where he was a property inspector and appraiser. He was a former member of Post #777 of the American Legion and former member of Sylvan Nook Church of Christ. He enjoyed golf, discussing politics, gardening and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years Deloris Hodel; son Jeff Hodel of Richmond and daughter Jenny Hatch of Richmond: grandson Dalton Hatch of Richmond: nephews Kris Hodel (Jenny), Kevin Hodel and Niece Karen Camfield (Bill). He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Avis and brother Jerry Hodel.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday October 12, 2018 at Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Pastor Curt Nies will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
