John E. Von Pein, age 87, of Richmond, died Wednesday (AprilS, 2006) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Richmond on November 22, 1918 to Fred and Katherine Menze Von Pein and had lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of Morton High School and served with the US Army Combat Engineers during World War II. He had worked in material handling at Johns Manville for more than 40 years. John and his first wife, Helen Marceil Von Pein (who died in 1980), also co-owned and operated the Von Pein Mobile Home Court. He was a life-long member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church where he completed his first eight years of education at the Lutheran elementary school. John enjoyed life and always maintained a sunny and positive disposition. He was patriotic and very loyal to his country. He also loved music and enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, singing and dancing. He was a great provider and devoted to his family. John was a member of American Legion Post 65, VFW Post 1108 and the Druids Lodge. Survivors include - his second wife Alberta A.Von Pein (whom he married in 1983); one son - John E. (Linda) Von Pein, Jr of Richmond, two Granddaughters - Katherine Bruni of Lafayette, Indiana, Karla Fultz of Lafayette, Indiana; 6 Great Grandchildren; Step-sons - Thomas Kelly and Terry Kelly of Richmond, and Tim Kelly of North Carolina, Nieces Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday (April 10, 2006) in Saint John Lutheran Church (501 South & Nephews. Two sisters and two brothers are also deceased.7th Street). Pastor Herb Berry will officiate. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Veterans Council Friends may call at Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary on Sunday (April 9,2006) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to any one of the five Richmond Lutheran churches: Saint John, First English, Trinity, Faith United, or Saint Paul's Lutheran Church.
