Obituary

Leo I. Chang, age 83, of Richmond, died Wednesday morning (August 24, 2011) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Nanking, China on October 7, 1927 to Ju Yu and Chu-chin Chang and had lived in the United States since 1949. He received a degree in history from the University of Pittsburgh, a degree in political science from Duquesne University and a degree in library science from Carnegie Mellon University. He was employed by the public library in Youngstown, Ohio for 12 years (1954-1966) and then came to Earlham College where he was a librarian and professor of Chinese languages until his retirement in 1998 after more than 30 years of employment Survivors include his wife - Margarita C. Chang whom he married on August 20, 1960; daughter - Lisa (Doug) Boyer of Richmond; son - Thomas (Stephanie) Chang of Chicago, Illinois; sister - Betty Hsiao of Ann Arbor, Michigan; brother - Frank Chang of Cupertino, California; grandsons - Matt Boyer, Mike Boyer, Ryan Chang, Alex Chang. Friends may call on Saturday (August 27, 2011) from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Burial and services will be at a later date in Earlham Cemetery.
