Phyllis Messmer, age 83, of Richmond, died Wednesday evening (January 20, 2010) at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Richmond on September 2, 1926 to Frank and Angela Roll Smedinghoff and had lived here most of her life. She was a 1943 graduate of Richmond High School and was a retired employee of Webb and Associates. Phyllis was a member of Saint Andrew Church and was an active volunteer with the Wayne County Genealogical Society. Survivors include her husband of 58 years - Robert Messmer; daughter - Jayne (Bill) Thompson of Greenwood, Indiana; son - Mark Messmer of Saint Petersburg, Florida; sister - Susie (Paul) Warner of California; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, two brothers - George and Jimmy Smedinghoff and three sisters including Joan Evans, are also deceased. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Saturday (January 23, 2010) in Saint Andrew Church. Burial will be in Saint Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday (January 23, 2010) from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the church. Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
