Robert (Bob) Mercer, age 91, born in Miamisburg, Ohio on July 16,1932, the son of Charles and Verna Mercer. He passed on December 8, 2023 at Reid Health under the care of Hospice. He was a Korean War veteran. He worked for Dayton–Walther steel, Natco factory and retired from Mosey Mfg.
He married Phyllis Newman in 1969. He was a gun enthusiast, enjoyed Indy car and NASCAR racing. Bob was the proud manager of Windy Hill Angus farm. In his later years he enjoyed mowing and riding his JD Gator.
Left to cherish his memory daughters Yvonne (Vonnie) and Jeff Swim, Stacy (Mike) Jackson, Jennifer (Greg) Morrow, Denise (Terry) Fox, and Wanda (Arthur) Cox-Fairly. Grandchildren Hannah (Robin) Swim-Key, Lenny (Alyssa) Swim, Jesse Brooks, Crystal Woodard, Timothy Jackson, Stefanie (Lucas) Cope, Craig Shank, Amber Shriver, Toby (Karley) Fox, Dillon (Jessica) Fox and, Sam Bruner, Many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bob is also leaving behind members of the 6-day a week, 40+ year coffee club. Best friend Jeff Mendenhall, brother in-law George Newman, Mark Mendenhall, Jerry Bell, and many others. Around the kitchen table; world problems were solved, words of wisdom spoken, wildly inappropriate sarcasm which included both truths and lies. His friends were full of humor, intellect and dedication to Bob especially after Phyllis passed away in 1999. He is also preceded in death by daughters Robin Freeman, Teresa Griffey and granddaughter Linsey Susalla
Those who loved him also endured a long goodbye due to progressive dementia. His life ended peacefully into the hands of Jesus and was met with open arms from those who passed before him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday December 14, 2023 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary with the funeral service starting at 11:00 am. Pastor Brett Karanovich will officiate. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hand in Hand Day Center, 2727 E Main St, Richmond, IN 47374.
