Robert Joseph Messmer, age 87, passed away Tuesday (October 1, 2013) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Richmond on May 23, 1926 to Raymond F. and Margaret Messmer and had lived here all of his life. He was a longtime Meadow Gold milkman, and later delivered for the Palladium Item. Robert was also a Bronze Star recipient for his services in the U.S. Army while serving in the Philippines. Survivors include his daughter, Jayne (William) Thompson of Greenwood; Grandsons Travis Serio of North Carolina, Dominic Serio of Florida, Collin Messmer of Florida; Granddaughter Mackenzie Messmer of Georgia, Kendall Messmer of Florida; Great-Grandchildren Ana & Grace Serio of North Carolina, Chase Britt of North Carolina; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Phyllis Ann Messmer; Son Mark William Messmer; and Sister Martha Kuhne. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (October 5, 2013) at 12:00 p.m. in St. Mary Church (701 North A St) Burial will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday (October 5) from 10:00 a.m. �" 12:00 p.m. at the church.
