Samuel A. "Sam" Harris, age 72, of Richmond, died Wednesday (May 30, 2018) due to kidney failure at Reid Health. He was born at Reid Hospital in Richmond on April 22, 1946 to parents Helen Brown Harris. He was educated in Richmond and then graduated from the National School of Outdoor Conservation in Texas. He was a member of UAW 9212 where he was a journeyman as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic. He retired in 2008 from Richmond State Hospital after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1963 – 1967 where he was stationed in Germany.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Elaine Park Harris; daughter Samantha Presley, son-in-law Barry Presley; grandsons Zach, Jared and Dalton Presley all of Fountain City; brothers Don and Dave Harris, sisters Geneann Westover and Jane Blanton all of the Phoenix, Arizona area; cousins and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Harris, and a grandson, Steven Presley.
Sam loved spending time with his grandsons, watching them play sports, fishing or motorcross. He was a former member of the Valley 8-Ball Pool League and of ABATE. He loved to party with his many friends
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday (June 6, 2018) at 6:00 p.m. at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary. Chaplain Rick Alvey will officiate. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
