W. Gene Duke, age 85, formerly Richmond, died Tuesday (April 8, 2014) at IU Health Ball Hospital in Muncie. He was born in Richmond on May 12, 1928 to Edgar E. and Elizabeth E. Jay Duke and was a 1946 graduate of Richmond, High School. He worked for over 50 years in the insurance industry where he had also served as Deputy Commissioner for the Indiana Department of Insurance. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Shrine. He had lived in various communities around Indiana before moving to his residence in Bryant, Indiana. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Duke; daughters, Jacki (Steve) Loy of Crawfordsville, IN, Debby (Craig) McCoy of Richmond, Libby (Dave) Hirschy of Peoria, IL; son, Donald (Terri) Matchett of Florida; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Patricia Kiser Duke, his second wife, Ruth E. Matchett Duke; his daughter, Linda Hunt and his sister, Virginia M. Duke. Visitation will be held on Sunday (April 13, 2014) from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary (32 South 11th St. - Richmond) followed by graveside services at 3:30 p.m. in Webster Cemetery. www.riggle-waltermann.com .
