Obituary

Anita K. DeVito, age 61 of Richmond died peacefully on Monday September 9, 2024, at Reid Hospital. She was born in Richmond, IN on January 5, 1963, to Glen E. and Mary L. Brown. Anita lived her life "her way", her fee spirit has now soared higher and will reunite with everyone she had lost and now she will wait until she can see everyone she left behind.
Anita was a "people person", if she met someone new, she naturally had a way of making them feel easy, calm and comfortable. She also enjoyed just watching people, sitting on a bench at events or gatherings and watching people interact with each other.
Anita previously worked at Casey's Auto Sales, MCL Cafeteria, Petro Fuel Island and as a food service grill cook at Earlham College through Sodexo and Metz Culinary. While working for Sodexo she became an instrumental person in fighting for fair wages and benefits for her, her coworkers and thousands of others across the United States. She traveled to various places while battling for fair wages and benefits including Boston, MA, Washington, DC, Atlantic City, Chicago, and Philadelphia. She was featured in the Wall St. Journal for her work on the matter. While with the Union, she was a Union Stewart, and she was very proud to serve in that role. She took much satisfaction that she was able to help so many of her coworkers and workers across the country, workers in that union today still enjoy those benefits because Anita and others fought hard to get those approved.
Anita had many close friends that she held dear to her heart and loved to talk to them whenever she could.
Left to cherish Anita's memory are fiancé/best friend of 20 years Jeff Rogan; Son Devin DeVito; Grandson Brendon Isaacs; many friends including Eric Huber who introduced Anita and Jeff. Anita is preceded in death by her father Glen E. Brown, mother Mary L. Brown and Infant Granddaughter Bailey Mae DeVito.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
"I've shut the door on yesterday, It's sorrows and mistakes;
I've locked within its gloomy walls, Past failures and heartaches.
And now I throw the key away, To seek another room,
And furnish it with hope and smiles, and every springtime bloom."
