Afroditi "Effie" Kandris, age 90, of Richmond, Indiana passed away peacefully in her home Saturday (March 16, 2024). She was born in the small village of Elatos, Greece on February 14, 1934 to Panayoti and Vasiliki Sioutos.
Effie enjoyed cooking authentic Greek food, crocheting, various types of needlework, and spending time with family and friends. She blessed all with unconditional love; an amazing, beautiful, all-encompassing feeling of warmth, a security with a silent direction and purpose only a mother could provide.
She served Richmond Community Schools Food Services Department for over twenty-five years, always enjoying her interactions with students and providing them an "extra helping." She volunteered for many years at the Greek festivals at her church. She was married to her beloved husband, Dimitrios, for 48 years. Effie is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, and four older siblings.
Survivors include daughter - Helen Studebaker of Indianapolis; sons – Nick (Julie) Kandris of Richmond, IN and John (Sharon) Kandris of Greenwood, IN; grandchildren - Corrine Kandris, Haely Studebaker, Dimitrios Kandris, Alexander Kandris, Nicholas Kandris and great grandchild - Jazleen DiCupe.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20th at 10 a.m. and Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park North, Dayton, Ohio. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery in Richmond, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dayton, Ohio or to Holy Trinity Cathedral in Carmel, Indiana.
