Obituary

Anna Marie (Sulprizio) Maurer, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024 at the age of 84 at IU North Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Tom, along with her 4 children, Chris (John) Peek of Indianapolis, Tom (Jody) of Webster Groves, MO, Laura (Matt) Hays of Indianapolis, and Doug (Carrie) of Washington, DC, along with grandchildren Abby Hays and Corrine Hays, and her sister Rose Turner of Wisconsin.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dominick and Adeline Sulprizio, brother, Paul Sulprizio, and half-brothers Albert, Benjamin, Eugene, and Richard Sulprizio, and Joseph Giammarco.
Born in Richmond, IN on September 29, 1939 to Adeline and Dominick Sulprizio, who had both immigrated to the United States from Tocco da Casauria, Italy, Anna Marie attended St. Andrews School and graduated from Richmond Senior High School, where she loved being a member of the spirit group known as "Block R", before starting her career as a stay-at-home mom, at which she excelled in every conceivable category! As an empty nester, she eventually decided to return to work part-time at JC Penney's.
Together with her husband Tom, they raised 4 children in a happy and loving home, to be independent and thoughtful adults. She also doted on a succession of family cats (including several neighborhood strays) earning her the nickname "Grandma Kitty" from her adoring grandchildren.
Anna Marie loved music, especially Christmas music and musicals featuring her favorite, Judy Garland. Her Italian heritage was a source of great pride and the inspiration behind the delicious multi-course meals she prepared for all holidays and special occasions, often alongside her mother and dear sister, Rosie. Her strong Catholic faith was her foundation on which she built such wonderful relationships within her own family as well as her in-laws, of which she had many! She was especially thrilled upon learning of the sainthood attained by long deceased "cousin" Nunzio Sulprizio, when he was canonized by Pope Francis in 2018. She was a beloved member of St. Andrew's Parish for many years, at which she developed dozens of lifelong friendships.
Anna Marie fought a long difficult battle with frontotemporal dementia. Though she lost her ability to speak, she brought joy to those who loved her through her loving and expressive nature. She touched the lives of all her caretakers and continues to inspire her family and loved ones through the grace with which she handled her disease.
She was the heart and soul of our family and will be dearly missed by all.
