Obituary

Benjamin Matthew "Gentle Ben" Craig, age 40, of Richmond, Indiana, ended his battle with mental illness on Thursday morning, September 22, 2011 at Reid Hospital (Richmond). He was born February 28, 1971 in Wichita, KS. He graduated from Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, MO in 1989 and attended Meramec Community College in Saint Louis, MO. He was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God where he was involved in the choir, Sunday School and a very special small group. He was a member of the USBC Bowling Association and was involved in the Church Bowling League. He was also a member of the Breakthrough Club of Wichita, KS where he had been a long time advocate for mental illness awareness. Benjamin was preceded in death by his grandpa, Jim Terhune and grandpa Dale Frey. He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate - Angela Joy Craig whom he married March 3, 2007 in Richmond, Indiana; two step-daughters - Victoria Leonard and Bethany McCormick both of Richmond; his father - Charles (Margaret) Craig of Saint Louis, MO; his mother - Mary Jeanne "Jeannie" (Ron) Cole of Wichita, KS; grandparents - Roy and Martha Craig of Fenton, MO; grandmother - Virginia Frey of Spring Hill, KS; sister - Sarah Craig of Denver, CO; brother - Samuel Craig of Saint Louis, MO; step-brother - Brett Cole and step-sister - Susan (Sam) Bowlin both of Wichita, KS; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews along with countless special friends who were blessed to know him. Ben loved reading, writing, music, movies, bowling, laughing and being with his family. His signature statement was "be blessed and be a blessing!" and he did that well. Ben touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and he maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Funeral services for Benjamin Matthew Craig will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday (September 26, 2011) at Lighthouse Assembly of God (2339 W. Cart Road, Richmond, Indiana). Rev. R.M. Holdeman will officiate. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery (north of Richmond on SR 227). Friends and family are welcome to call on Monday (September 26, 2011) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church.
