Betty Jean Cannon, formerly Kurtz, finally hit “unsubscribe from life” surrounded by her family at Reid Hospital.

Betty was a housewife, a Soda Jerk, and a hard worker who cleaned the courthouse and several banks around town. She spent her life doing what needed to be done, taking care of things, taking care of people, and probably wondering why everyone else couldn't just clean up after themselves.

Betty is preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Jane Northern of Harlan, Kentucky, and her father, William Kurtz of Webster, Indiana; her sisters Josephine Kurtz of Kentucky, Ruth Barnett of Crab Orchard, Tennessee, Edith Worley of Grenada, Mississippi, Louise Kurtz of California, Geneva Poole of Tennessee, Dorothy Hartwig of New Bremen, Ohio, and William Kurtz Jr. of Liberty, Indiana; and her husband, Charles T. Cannon.

She leaves behind her son, Chuck Cannon; her daughter, for all intents and purposes, Beth Senters; and another daughter, an amateur magician who perfected the art of completely vanishing from her mother's life years ago.

Betty is also survived by her grandsons Charles N. Cannon and Nathan Byrd, along with her great-grandchildren Justin Carter, Morgan Graber, Brooklyn Senters, Madison Senters, Peyton Cannon, Draven Corwin, Jaxen Corwin, Adalynn Paige, and Brylee Caldwell.

Betty's story doesn't need to end with sadness. She lived, she worked, she loved, she raised a family, and she left behind plenty of memories—and probably a few stories that will get told a little differently depending on which family member is doing the telling.

Don't mourn the dead; mourn the living.

Betty is finally at peace and home with her mom and her sisters.

And after everything life handed her, she earned the right to finally put her feet up.
