Byron Henry Koorsen, age 58, passed away on June 16, 2025 in Summerfield, Florida after his courageous battle with cancer. Byron was born in Richmond, Indiana on September 25, 1966 to James A. and Joan C. (Tillson) Koorsen. As a child, Byron attended Central United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and working on cars. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1984-1990 and the Army from 1991-1992. Byron worked as an auto mechanic for about 25 years before becoming a truck driver. He has lived all over the U.S. including the Richmond area for 16 years, California for 25 years, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for 7 years and finally Summerfield, Florida for 7 years. He loved to travel, especially when he was truck driving. He enjoyed going out West, seeing the mountains and spending time in Las Vegas. He enjoyed watching movies, spending time with family and his dog Sassy. Byron had a very kind soul and you could always count on him to make you laugh; he will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his brothers Mark (Colleen) Koorsen of South Carolina, James "Jimmy" Koorsen of Indiana, Greg (Michelle) Koorsen of Florida and Todd (Peggy (Nolte)) Anderson of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandparents Donald (Thelma) Tillson, Herman (Sara) Koorsen; brother Alan Tillson; niece Rebecca Koorsen and sister-in-law Teresa Koorsen.
Pastor Rick Alvey will officiate services for Byron at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday June 28, 2025 at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00am – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Greens Fork South Cemetery, where a military graveside service will be provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
