Obituary

Carl E. Chasteen, age 78, of Richmond, died Tuesday evening (March 24, 2009) at the Dayton Veterans Administration Hospital in Dayton, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was born in Richmond on November 17, 1930 to Lester and Helen Mae Smith Chasteen and had lived in this area all of his life. He was a graduate of Whitewater High School and was a retired employee of the former Wayne Works. Carl was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He loved watching sports, particularly the Indianapolis Colts and IU basketball. He enjoyed fishing and being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading and was fond of studying astrology. Survivors include his daughters - Karla Chasteen of Marietta, Georgia, Vicki Chasteen of Centerville, Lesa Stamper of Williamsburg, Prudence Kernosek of Hagerstown; son - Michael Chasteen of Richmond; brothers - Franklin Chasteen of Indianapolis, Lester Keith Chasteen of Richmond; seven grandchildren - Thomas and Gabriel Stamper, Reile Tincher, Ethan, Sophia, Malia and Luke Kernosek; one niece. A son, Carl E. Chasteen, Jr is also deceased. Services will be private with burial in Earlham Cemetery. Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. www.riggle-waltermann.com
