Obituary

After a valiant four-and-a-half year battle, Mike Adams' body finally had enough and he passed away on Tuesday morning (October 23, 2012). His warmth and wisdom continue on. He died peacefully at home in Key West, Florida.

Mike was born in Richmond, Indiana on September 21, 1943 to Charles Thomas Adams and RoseAnn Linderman Adams. He grew up in Richmond, an active member of 4-H, and graduated from Richmond High School. After graduation, Mike worked at the Second National Bank in Indiana and attended the Chicago School of Banking. He then joined the automobile dealership of Bob Sizemore. When he moved to Fort Wayne he worked for another automobile agency and attended several automotive institutes. Mike loved horses and bought, trained and sold them. Moving on to Tennessee and Virginia, he ran several mobile home dealerships. He loved fishing, sailing and flying, even owning his own plane. He also had a passion for classic cars and bought and sold several over the years. He loved music and history. He leaves behind a large collection of books and guitars and a couple of cars.

Mike moved to Florida in 1978. He lived in Sarasota and Venice where he sold real estate. Drawn by his love of fishing and sailing, he eventually gravitated to Key West where he lived his dream on a sailboat. He was recovering from a car accident on Pine Island (Weeki Wachee) when he met the love of his life, Sharen. They married and came to Key West where they had a wonderful life together swimming, snorkeling, sailing, fishing, boating and riding bikes all over their chosen "hometown". Mike worked as the used car manager at Duncan Ford and later became the night supervisor at the Pink Taxi Company.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife - Sharon Basting Adams; his two loving little Shih Tzus Samantha (his nurse thru the entire process with cancer), and Tillie Valentine ( the one that could always put a smite on his face). Mike also leaves behind his loving younger sister Patricia Clark (of Richmond); two well-loved children from a previous marriage; Christian and Becky; a sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends. His step-son, Raymond Bertram Adams, and his parents predeceased him. Mike will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday (October 29, 2012) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Mendle Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
