David A. Palmer, age 64, of Richmond, died Friday afternoon (January 16, 2009) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Fairmont, West Virginia to Dr. Ralph E. Jr. and Helen Conaway Palmer and had lived here since 1979. He was a graduate of Monessen, Pennsylvania High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan University. He had worked for JC Penny in Middletown, Ohio and Covington, Kentucky and for Nettle Creek Industries in Richmond. He had also worked for Vandor Corporation and for Allain Gallery and Frame Shop. David currently worked in textile sales. He was a member of the Richmond Noon Lions Club and was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America serving on the Old Trail District Committee He had also served as Troop Master for Troop 16 where he continued to display his love of the outdoors by participating in campouts and teaching outdoor skills. He enjoyed camping and boating and had served as a referee for the Richmond Youth Soccer Association. He was a former board member for Girl Scouts and was a member of Centerville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 37 years - Sharon Palmer; daughter - Jennifer Palmer of Greenwood, Indiana; son - Andy (Lindsay) Palmer of Lafayette, Indiana; father - Dr. Ralph E. Palmer, Jr. of Monessen, Pennsylvania; sisters - Patricia (Evan) Aptaker of Santa Barbara, California; Dr. Susan Palmer of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother - Rick Palmer of Monessen, Pennsylvania; grandson - Carter Palmer and a grandchild to be born in July 2009. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday (January 20, 2009) at Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Jeff Blansett will officiate. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday (January 19, 2009) from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
