Dimitrios "Jim" Kandris, age 88, of Richmond, died Saturday morning (February 13, 2010) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Vervena, Greece on January 15, 1922 to Yanni and Panagiota Kandris. He served in the Greek Army during World War II, moved from Greece to California in 1957and had lived in Richmond for the past 48 years. Jim was a retired 29 year employee of the Richmond State Hospital and was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dayton, Ohio. He was also a member of the AHEPA Association. Survivors include his wife of 48 years - Effie Kandris; daughter - Helen Studebaker of Richmond; sons - Nick Kandris of Richmond and John (Sharon) Kandris of Indianapolis; sisters - Maria Theothosopoulos of Toronto, Canada and Nikki Pikkras of Greece; grandchildren - Corrine Kandris, Haely Studebaker, Dimitrios A. Kandris, Alexander N. Kandris; great grandchild - Jazleen Dicupe; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a sister, Katerina Protopapas, and a brother, Themos Kandris are also deceased. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday (February 17, 2010) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Father Mark Emroll will officiate. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday (February 16, 2010) from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
