Donald Liebschutz, 82, died in Richmond, Indiana, on May 9, 2024. He was born on January 14, 1942, in Louisville, KY, the youngest child of Irvin" Izzy" and Anna.
Donald, although he was not a Richmond native, he was a man deeply rooted in his community. He was an Army veteran and his contributions extended beyond his career as an optician where he worked alongside Dr. Coble in the mid 60's in Richmond. He worked in the wholesale liquor business in the early 80's and was the owner of Bertie's Tavern in the late 80's. In the early 90's he started Leebees Smoke and Tobacco Shop which he operated for approximately 20 years. He was a 32nd-degree Master Mason, Scottish Rite, Murat and Tarum Shrines, and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Richmond. He enjoyed golfing and after ownership of the lounge, he was an owner/operator of thoroughbreds and sulky horses where he had a true love for the horse industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Izzy and Anna Liebschutz.
Donald is survived by his siblings, Marlene Phillips (the late Henry), Harvey Liebschutz, and Joyce Kelman (David); Norma Liebschutz, who was always there for him and a very important person in his life and always took care of him; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves special friends Nadda Owens, Mike Wamsely, Dave Buttery, Paul Jacot, Mark Davis and Cindy Murray.
A graveside service was held on Sunday May 12th, in Keneseth Israel Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
