Obituary

Donald Hittle Sr., 85, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away at home with family by his side on March 20, 2025. He was born on June 27, 1939, in Richmond, Indiana, the son of William and Myrtle Hittle.

A proud graduate of Richmond High School and Indiana Business College, Don dedicated much of his life to his career and passions. He retired from Belden after years of hard work and was recognized multiple times for perfect attendance. Beyond his professional life, he had a deep love for sports and officiated local high school baseball, basketball and football games for 42 years, including a memorable State Championship game in 1999.

Don was an avid golfer who always found joy on the greens. He was a long-time member of Liberty Country Club. Don was a devoted fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed dancing and was always ready to enjoy a good tune. A talented athlete himself, he played softball for Miracle Tree Service and was a part of 3 consecutive State Championship winning teams.

Don had a remarkable sense of humor that could brighten any room. His witty jokes and teasing brought laughter to those around him. He was rarely seen without a cigar hanging from his mouth or enjoying Levi Garrett Chew. Over the years, he loved many dogs dearly—but Charlie held a special place in his heart.

Above all else, Don cherished his family. He was a loving husband to Linda Dixon Hittle for 64 wonderful years. Together they built a beautiful family that includes children: Donnie Hittle, Ronnie (Belinda) Hittle, Julie (Jerry) Cavanaugh, Tommy (Donna) Hittle, and Chris (Kim) Hittle. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Michael Cavanaugh, Neil Cavanaugh, Ronnie Hittle Jr., Donnie Hittle III, Jeremy Cavanaugh, Amy Yount, Ashley Ramirez, Brittany Brooks, Haley Milholland, Chris Hittle Jr., Danielle Hittle, Krisann Kincaid, and Will Hittle; as well as 26 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. He was also a brother to Linda, Dorothy and Gary as well as an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Lula and Ginny; two great-grandchildren, Mia Ramirez and Lakelyn Reel; and his best friend Archie Smith.
