Dorothy McWhorter, age 70 of Richmond, passed away on April 11, 2025. She was born in Beattyville, Kentucky on December 4, 1954 to the late Tildon Newton and Gertrude Newton.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Scott McWhorter and her son Joseph McWhorter; two sisters Sylvia Newton and Karen Newton.
She was a devoted mother, sister and friend to many people. She touched the lives of many children at Vaile Elementary where she worked as an aide in the lunchroom. Dorothy enjoyed reading books, playing games with her family and sitting on her front porch sipping coffee while watching her little dog.
Dorothy leaves behind two daughters Teresa McWhorter and Karen McWhorter; Jim Wells whom she loved as a son; sister Lavonda Sands (Marvin Sands); three brothers Roger Newton, Melvin Newton and Alvin Newton; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind Zachary Wells; she watched him go from a little boy to a grown man and loved him as a grandchild.
Rev. Cindy Ploughe will officiate services at 1:00 p.m. on Monday April 21, 2025 at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary. Burial will immediately follow in Earlham Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 11am-1pm, Monday April 21, 2025 at the funeral home.
