Douglas Monroe Abner, a resident of Yellowsprings, Ohio since 1976, died Sunday (August 21, 2011) from complications from a brain tumor he had been dealing with since 2009. He was 60. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Julie Kay Karlson, a local artist and bird watcher; his mother Glenna Ayers of Richmond, Indiana; a sister Melissa Julien of Richmond. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mari Abner. Abner , described by his wife as a very private person who was loving, generous and intelligent, was a research physicist for the US Air Force for 22 years. He retired in 2009. The couple met when both were students at Earlham College in Richmond. He went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
