Edna Chain Herre, age 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, June 16, 2004, at her home in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Born December 20, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Dr. Clarence and Charlotte Chain. She was a member of First Christian Church, Richmond, IN. She was a graduate of Overbrook High School and Piercely's Business School. She had worked at the Insurance Company of North America in Philadelphia. While Living in Richmond, she worked as a secretary in the Earlham College Admissions Office. She enjoyed singing and sang in the First Christian Church choir and had a role in the church's Easter pageant. "The Dawning" in the 1950's. She enjoyed playing bridge with the 21st Street neighborhood wives. She loved her family and was a sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She and her husband Richard had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in Florida.
Survivors include her husband Richard Herre; her daughter. Ruth Hickman, Centerville, IN, her son, Dick (Mary) Herre, Jr. , Robinson, IL, sister, Mary Hannum, Lancaster, PA, brother, Dr. Robert (Margaret) Chain, Lancaster, PA, five grandchildren, David J (Pam) Torbeck, Terry (Jennifer) Torbeck, Patricia (Brian)Alexander, Chris Herre, And Cameron Herre. Six great-grandchildren, Chris (Nicole) Torbeck, Jacob Torbeck, Carlie Torbeck, Caitlin Torbeck, Matthew Alexander and Christy Alexander, cousins and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn daughter, Melody, and brother-in-law, Richard Hannum.
A memorial service for Edna Chain Herre will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday,(June 26, 2004) at First Christian Church, 100 South 10th Street, Richmond with Rev. Kendal Harris officiating.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday (June 26, 2004) from 10:30 am to 11:30am.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Music Fund.
