Obituary

Elijah H. "Blackie" Pennington, age 81, of Richmond, went home to the Lord on Saturday (February 5, 2005). He died peacefully at his home. He was born on May 18, 1923 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky as one of six children to Thomas and Rosie Goodman Pennington and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a Marine Corp veteran of World War II where he served proudly in the South Pacific. He was a master carpenter and contractor and an avid antique collector. He was a member of Whitewater Lodge #159 F & AM where he served as Senior Warden in 1989. He was raised to the Master Mason Degree on October 15, 1981. He was also a member of the Whitewater Valley Detachment of the Marine Corp League. His wife, Alice Pennington, died in 2002.
Survivors include - Daughter - Sherry Pennington of Richmond
Sons - Steve Pennington of Richmond
Tom Pennington of Fairfield, Ohio

Sister - Mona Watts of New Paris, Ohio
Brother - Hysell Pennington of Jabez, Kentucky
Special Friends - Joy Weatherly and Caroline Paddock
6 Grandchildren - Brian Cordell, Jason Pennington, Danielle Long, Brandon Pennington, Micah Tevis & Cara Penningon.
8 Great Grandchildren - Tayler Pennington, Drew Gray, Brian Cordell, Jr., Brice Pennington, Elijah Pennington, Asher Pennington, Quincy Tevis and Madison Cordell
An infant brother and three other brothers, Jesse, Hubert and Troy Pennington, are also deceased.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday (February 9, 2005) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Burial with military graveside rites will be in Goshen Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday (February 8, 2005) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corp League, 200 S. 9th St. Richmond, IN 47374 or to the Salvation Army, 707 S. "A" St. Richmond, IN 47374
