Emerson J. Evans, age 82, of Richmond, died Sunday afternoon (May 23, 2010) at Heritage House of Richmond. He was born in Carter County, Kentucky on March 30, 1928 to William Vernon and Nora F. Henderson Evans and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired employee of Johns Manville. Emerson was an avid fisherman. He and his wife were dedicated participants in foster-care for many years. Survivors include his wife - Wilma Baker Evans; son - Gary Evans of Richmond; daughter - Sharon "Shay" Rogers of Hagerstown; brothers - Theodore Evans of Kentucky, Frank Evans of Kentucky, Donnie Evans of Mansfield, Ohio, Walt Evans of Richmond; sisters - Joy Haywood of Kentucky and Cressie Campbell of Ohio Grandchildren - Tiffany King, Heather King, Amber King and Cheyenne Rogers; great grandchildren - Trevan, Landon, Corrina, Xaiden, Jaydon and Zach; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, sisters Barbara Fannin and Betty Oakley, and brothers Gene, Bob and Paul Evans are also deceased. Services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday (May 27, 2010) in Riggle - Waltemann Mortuary. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Friends may call on Wednesday (May 26, 2010) from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
