Ernest C. Pollard, age 85, of Richmond, died Saturday (October 7, 2006) at his residence from massive stokes, Alzheimer's and dementia.� He was born on November 11, 1920 in Harriman, Tennessee and moved to Richmond when he was 5 years old.� He graduated from Richmond High School in 1941 after suffering from a 2 year heart ailment. He married Winifred Floyd on August 10, 1945.� He fought in World War II for three and one half years in the African and European Theatres with the US Army 77th Field Artillery Battalion.� He earned a Purple Heart after being hit by a shell while serving as a forward observer.� He also earned a EAME Theatre Ribbon with 6 Bronze Stars.� Ernie worked at Natco as a toolmaker for 45 years before retiring in 1985.� He was a member of Webb Lodge #24 F&AM and of the Whitewater Valley Scottish Rite. He has been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for 61 years.� He proudly built his home where his family has lived since 1959.

Grandchildren - Stephanie R. Banta and Zachary (wife Venus) Banta and a great grandchild to arrive in November of this year;
Brother - William L. Pollard;
Sisters-n-law - Geneva Tice, Jane Floyd and Helen Floyd-Williams;
Nieces - Judy (husband Bob) Pence, Carol (husband Fred) Coleman; Vicki (husband Ward) Rush, Susan and Marsha Floyd;
Nephews - Gary (wife Carolyn) Pollard, Gene (wife Sandy) Skinner, Vaughn (wife Susan) Floyd, Douglas (wife Pamela) Floyd.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 � years, who he loved dearly, Winifred V. Pollard; Sister - Helen Skinner

Services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday (October 11, 2006) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.� Pastor Jerry Mielke will officiate.� Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Veterans Council.� Friends may call on Tuesday (October 10, 2006) from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home where Webb Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 7:00 pm.
