Obituary

F. John Witte, age 84, of Richmond, died Sunday morning (March 25, 2007) at Reid Hospital.� He was born in Richmond on January 3, 1923 to Frank and Ethel McKhann Witte and had lived here most of his life. He was a retired barber and had worked at various locations in this area. He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II and was a member of VFW Post 1108. John was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church where he had served on the parish council for two years and as director of religious education (CCD) for two years. He had also assisted with the parish bulletins and volunteered as the pro-life coordinator for the Richmond Catholic Community. He had served as a coach and athletic director of Saint Mary School and had coached Optimist League baseball and girls softball. John served as a custodian of the Our Lady of Fatima Statue for 25 years and was a member of the Third Order of Carmelites. He served as secretary and news letter editor for the 452nd Bomb Group Association. His wife, Frances Drake Witte, whom he married on May 12, 1945 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Bristall, England, died on September 2, 1993. Survivors include his son �" Shaun Francis (Sherry) Witte of Richmond; Daughters �" Bernadette Marie (David) Gross of Richmond and Yvonne Elaine (Tim) Rudicil of Richmond. 6 Grandchildren �" Melissa Olt, John Brumley, Angela Voiles, Shaun Matthew Witte, Karen Witte and Jason Witte; 9 Great Grandchildren and special friends from the Third Order of Carmelites. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 am on Friday (March 30, 2007) in Riggle �" Waltermann Mortuary followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Mary Church Father Todd Riebe will officiate and Father Deacon Joseph Olt will assist. Burial will be in Saint Mary Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday (March 29, 2007) from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Third Order of Carmelites, 240 South 6th Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374. www.riggle-waltermann.com
