Fred S. Talbot, age 89, of Richmond died Monday (August 21, 2006) at his home after a long struggle with diabetes.� He was born on August 14, 1917 in Clayton, New Mexico.� His family later moved to Kansas where in 1941 he received a degree from the School of Agriculture at Kansas State University.� An Army veteran of World War II, Fred served as a captain with the 2nd and 725th Field Artilleries in Panama and Europe.�� He moved to Richmond in 1949 and retired here in 1983 after serving as a family partner and operator of Melody Skateland which was built in 1950 and then The Skate which was opened in 1980.� Fred was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church and had been a 50 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church.� In retirement, Fred served as an officer of the local chapter of AARP and dedicated many volunteer hours to the Richmond Rose Garden.� Fred was a 53 year member of the Richmond Lions Club and proud of his 44 years of perfect attendance.� He was a recent recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Award.� His wife, Florence Talbot, died on July 14, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday (August 27, 2006) in Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 121 South 28th Street, Richmond.� Rev. Jerry Mielke will officiate.� Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.� Friends may call on Sunday (August 27, 2006) from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the church.� Memorial contributions may be made to Richmond Lions Club, % 211 South Salem Street, Boston, Indiana 47324.� Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
