George Eugene Bartindale died peacefully at his daughter's home on September 4, 2023. George was born in Otterbein, Indiana on February 7, 1929 and was the son of George and Bridget Bartindale. George is survived by his daughter Marta Strickland (Rex) of Mount Dora, Fl, son Michael Bartindale (Kathryn) of Saint Charles, IL, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally Bartindale, his son Matthew Bartindale and great grandson Lane Strickland.
A graduate of Otterbein High School and the Indiana Business College in Lafayette, IN, George then enlisted in the Army where he rose to the rank of Corporal in the Fifth Regimental Combat Team in the Korean War. Following his tenure in the service he worked for the General Telephone Co. of Indiana, where he met Sally, who would become his wife of sixty-seven years. George moved to Richmond in 1961 to work for Hill Floral Products and later with Smithers Oasis out of Kent, OH.
An active member of the community, George served at the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and was Chairman of the Inaugural Rose Festival in 1972. Following his retirement, George worked on the Absentee Board of Wayne County for almost twenty years. In 2021 George was named Republican of the Year for Wayne County. George was an avid golfer and spent much of his time on some of the golf courses close at home, across the US and in a few other countries. A long-time member of the Elk's Country Club in Richmond, he not only shot his age in 2018 at the age of 89, he also had a hole-in-one some years earlier.
His second passion was eating out. Whether in and around Richmond, or in other parts of the Country, George was the person to call when looking for a good place to eat. Nothing made him happier than lively conversation with family and friends.
George was a Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
