George Dewey Blevins, age 102, of Richmond, died Tuesday morning (June 23, 2009) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Mt. Pisgah, Kentucky on November 8, 1906 to John and Kizziah Blevins. George lived in Richmond most of his life, working for the International Harvester Company, Dille McGuire Co, and several other businesses. He attended Purdue University where he studies industrial management. George was an avid bowler in many leagues over the years and he proudly stated that he had bowled since age 7. He won many honors as a bowler, including being inducted into the Wayne County Bowling Hall of Fame in 2008. Among his other bowling accomplishments were first place (gold) medals at the National Senior Games competition in Hampton, Virginia in 2003; in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2005 and at the age of 100 in Louisville, Kentucky in 2007. He often won the bowling championships for Richmond in the Rose City Festival. Over the years, he also won Bowler of the Year Awards, High Individual Game, High Individual Average, High Series, as well as many team awards. He was a member of the American Bowling Congress and the United States Bowling Association for most of his adult life. George became a member of First Baptist Church in Richmond in 1935 and continued faithful attendance until his recent illness. He was the longest living member of the church and had served as a deacon in earlier years. George married his childhood sweetheart, Edna Ina Hucaby, in 1932, with whom he lived until her death in 1985. Survivors include his son - David of New Brunswick, New Jersey and his sister Pearl of Knightstown, Indiana. There are many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the United States. In addition to his wife, eight brothers and sisters are also deceased. A celebration of George Blevins' life will be held Friday (June 26, 2009) at 2:00 pm in First Baptist Church (1600 South "A" Street) in Richmond. Rev. James Spon will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Friday (June 26, 2009) at the church. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello, Kentucky.
