Dr. Gerald J. Morris, age 87, of Richmond, died Wednesday afternoon (June 30, 2004) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Hagerstown, Indiana on May 27, 1917 to Hugh D. and Lela Jones Morris and was raised in Cambridge City. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and he attended Earlham College and Indiana University - Bloomington. He was a 1940 graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He served 4 � years active duty in the US Army Dental Corps and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and was discharged from active station hospital duty in California with the rank of Major. He practiced dentistry in Richmond for 40 years , retiring in 1985. He was a life member of the American Dental Association and was a member and past president of the Richmond Dental Society and the Eastern Indiana Dental Association. He was a 13 year member of the Richmond Aviation Commission of which he was also past president. He was a former member of Murat Temple of Indianapolis, the Scottish Rite, Webb Lodge #24 F & AM, Tarum Shrine Club and Elks Lodge #649. He was active in local aviation activities for many years as a pilot and aircraft owner. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and had toured the lower 48 States and Nova Scotia. He was a former member of the Noon Kiwanis Club and he was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include - Wife - Betty Morris (to whom he was married 28 years)
Daughters - Sharon Louise (husband John) Harris of Auburn, Indiana
Sandra Mae Crowder of Dallas, Texas
Step-sons - Adam (wife Tammy) Carman of Richmond
Clay (wife Tammy) Carman of Liberty, Indiana
Step-daughter - Beth Carman of Houston, Texas
Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren
A sister, Maxine Castle, is also deceased.
Public graveside services will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday (July 3, 2004) in Earlham Cemetery. Pastor Martin Gehring will officiate. There will be no public calling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, 941 East 86th Street Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. Arrangements are being handled by Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.
