Herschel William Shaffer Jr., Age 61, died Friday (April 27,2018) at Reid hospital Herschel was born June 19,1956 to Herschel William Sr. and Minnie Mildred Shaffer in Richmond, Indiana. Herschel was a hard worker that you could always count on and worked various jobs over the years including 15 years at poor Jack amusements, over five years removing asbestos out of schools, Army Reserves and a mover for North American Van lines. Family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his grandchildren, children Norma Hockett, Kenneth Shaffer and Sandra Raines and wife of 19 years Dana. He always enjoyed swimming picking on his family. Herschel was best known for being funny and someone you could always depend on to cheer you up.



Survivors include his wife Dana; children Sandra M (Tabitha Henry) Raines (39), Norma Hockett (30), Kenneth Shaffer (29), Christina Pendergrass (29), and Crystal Mitchell(25); siblings Laila Cosner, Linda (Rick) Devers, Mary (Hotdog) Hunt; grandchildren Amanda Board, Michael Hall, , L.J. Israel, Savannah Whitaker, Selena Mitchell and Ashton North; nephew Jay Cole (who he lived with off of Three Witts Rd); other family and friends include Bonnie and Paul Wesler, Paul Whitaker, Jr. Cox, Phillip Byrd, Todd Bennett, Charlie Johnson and Bennie Armstrong; he leaves behind several brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his sisters Marcella, Dorothy, Myrtle; 2 brothers Billy Gray and Marvin Shaffer; sister in-law Carol Shaffer who help raise him; 4 grandchildren Logan Hockett Jr, Caden Israel, Jordan Israel, Neavah Israel, Spirit Mitchell.
