Obituary

Jack A. Daggy Sr., age 78, of Richmond, died Tuesday afternoon (August 24, 2004) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Wayne County on July 11, 1926 to Earl Sr. and Ruby Mae Kerr Daggy and had lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of Morton High School where he played basketball and football and he attended Earlham College. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Infantry in the European Theatre where he participated in the Rhineland Campaign, was wounded, and received the Purple Heart. He also received the Combat Infantry Badge, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was the retired owner-operator of Jack Daggy Flowers. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and working with youth was his joy. He served as a Scout Master for 6 years and he also served as treasurer of Riley School and as treasurer and president of Boston Junior High School. He had been a member of the Richmond High School Music Boosters where he also served as treasurer. He was a former member of the Wayne County 4-H Fair Board and had served as a 4-H Horse & Pony Leader during the late 1960's and early 1970's. He had served on the Rose Festival Board and had arranged flowers for the Rose Festival for over 22 years. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and served as president of the local American Heart Association from 1982 - 1984. He had served as a precinct chairman for the Republican Party and was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board. He was a former member and past president of the Diamond L Saddle Club. Jack had taught flower arranging classes at IU East and he was a member of Harry Ray Post 65 of the American Legion.
Survivors include - Wife - Ruth N Close Daggy to whom he was married 53 years.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday (August 27, 2004) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Mark Wesler and Rev. Fred Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday (August 26, 2004) from 4:00 pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
