Jack Edward Oakes, age 73, of Richmond, died Saturday morning (May 16, 2009) at his residence. He was born in Caryville, Tennessee on October 16, 1935 to John Dale and Ruby Leach Oakes and was a 1953 graduate of Richmond High School. He moved to the Chicago area in 1956 where he worked and a truck driver and as a window washer before moving back here in 1993. In Richmond, Jack worked for Wal-Mart and was a member of Rock Solid Ministries. He enjoyed bowling and playing ball and loved to go fishing. Survivors include his wife of 51 years - Rochelle Oakes; sons - James (Glenda) Oakes of Richmond; Dave (Deanna) Oakes of Richmond; sisters - Elizabeth (Art) Selby of Richmond, Norma (Neal) Latherly of Clearwater, Florida, Faye (Earl) Rettinger of Connersville; grandson - Jimmy Oakes; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Charles Oakes and John Dale Oakes, and two sisters, Helen Hood and Betty Hole are also deceased. Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday (May 20, 2009) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Pastor David Eales will officiate. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday (May 20, 2009) from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
