James A. Mitchell, age 65, of Richmond, died Saturday morning (March 13, 2010) at his residence. He was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky on May 21, 1944 to William and Goldie Nickerson Mitchell and had lived in Richmond since 1995. He was a Viet Nam War veteran and had served a total of 27 years in the military, first in the US Army and then in the US Navy. He had worked as a welder and was a former active member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife �" Patricia M. Mitchell; children Betty Mitchell of Cleveland, Ohio, Chris (Vanessa) Mitchell of Richmond, Jason Mitchell of Richmond, Jaymie (James Thorn) Mitchell of Saginaw, Texas, Stephen (Sheena) Mitchell of Richmond; brother �" William Mitchell of Lynn, Indiana; sisters �" Boots Mitchell of Wabash, Indiana; grandchildren �" Adyanna, Charlie Jay, Stephen, Giovanni and Michael James, numerous nieces and nephews. A son, James A. Mitchell II, a brother, John Mitchell, and a sister, Ann Marie Mitchell are also deceased. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday (March 18, 2010) in Riggle �" Waltermann Mortuary. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery in Liberty, Indiana where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Friends may call on Wednesday (March 17, 2010) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
