James C. Stephens, age 84, of Richmond, died Friday morning (July 31, 2009) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Richmond on February 28, 1925 to Curtis and Margaret Gail Richie Stephens and had lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of Richmond High School and was a US Army veteran of World War II where he served with the 3rd Armored Division in Europe. He was a carpenter by trade and worked at Avco for 31 years and retired from Richmond Community Schools after 12 years of service. His wife, Virginia Stephens, died May 8, 2006. Survivors include his sons - James Samuel (Camellia "Cappy") Stephens of Roy, Utah, Dean Jay (Terri) Stephens of Richmond; sister - Anna Lee Cloud of Fairmount, Indiana; grandson - Jacob Jay Stephens; a nephew. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday (August 4, 2009) in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary. Father Todd Riebe will officiate. Burial will be in Saint Mary Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
