James (Jim) W. Daugherty, 82, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024, at Reid Hospital. Born on April 16, 1942 to James W. and Thelma Baker Daugherty, Jim was a cherished member of the Richmond community, known for his unwavering dedication to family, faith, and the many passions that filled his life.
Jim graduated from Richmond High School in 1960 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Ball State University in 1970. During his time at Ball State, he proudly walked on and participated on the Men's Freshman Golf team, a testament to his lifelong love for the sport.
A veteran of the United States Army National Guard, Jim served his country with honor and pride. In 1977, he began a long and distinguished career with Richmond Power & Light, where he ultimately retired in 2008 as the Director of Human Resources. His tenure there was marked by dedication, leadership, and a deep commitment to his colleagues.
Jim was a devout member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, where his faith played a central role in his life. An avid golfer, he was a member of Glen Miller Golf Course and The Richmond Elks Country Club, and one of the original charter members of Highland Lake Golf Course, where he was the Club Champion in 1973. His passion for golf extended into his community service as a mentor and coach for the First Tee of Richmond, Indiana, since its inception in 2008. Jim especially enjoyed working with the youth on their short game, imparting his love and knowledge of the sport to the next generation.
A sports enthusiast, Jim also found joy in coaching little league baseball, basketball, and flag football, influencing many young athletes with his guidance and support. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies, which included fishing and hunting. Additionally, Jim loved watching basketball, cheering for the Indiana University Hoosiers, Indiana Pacers, and Memphis Grizzlies.
Jim is survived by his adored wife of 51 years, Debra "Debbie" L. Daugherty of Richmond, Indiana; his son, Ryan (Melissa) Daugherty of Westfield, Indiana; his nephew, Lucas Starritt of Richmond, Indiana; his beloved West Highland White Terrier, Milo; and his grand-dog, Tripp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Thelma Daugherty, and his brother, Robert "Bob" E. Daugherty.
