Jane A. Hoover, age 83, of Richmond, died at Friends Fellowship Community on Tuesday (August 14, 2007) after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 23, 1924 to Harry and Emma Havens in Elwood, Indiana. She married Parke Hoover of Pennsylvania on April 10, 1949. They lived most of their married life in Richmond. Jane was proud of her teaching career of over 30 years, many of which were as a first grade teacher at Fairview Elementary. After retiring she volunteered in the tutoring program with Richmond Community Schools. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and greatly enjoyed her many friends there. Jane was known for always seeing the best in people. Jane is survived by her husband Parke; her daughters Deena Grass of Cross Plains, Wisconsin and Cris (Howard) Elstro of Lima, Ohio; six grandchildren Brian Webb of Wisconsin, David Webb of Minnesota, Heidi Grass of Hawaii, Anne (Mike) Savage of Florida, Stephanie Elstro of Ohio and Josh Elstro of Ohio; her sisters Hilda Hinshaw of Frankfort, Indiana, Dot (Frank) Thomas of Beaumont, Texas, Nancy (Layton) Johnson of Munster, Indiana. In addition to her parents, a sister, June Sargent who resided in Virginia, is also deceased. A "celebration of life" service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday (August 18, 2007) in First Presbyterian Church (100 North 10th Street). Friends may greet the family from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Burial will be prior to the service at 9:00 am in Earlham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church; to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 689, Columbus, Indiana 47202; or to a favorite charity.
