Janice L. Jackson, 71, Cottage Grove, died Tuesday, June 22, in Fairfield, OH, after a short illness. Born October 8, 1938, she was the second daughter of George W. Wilcox and Ellen (Ward) Wilcox, both of Richmond. She was predeceased by both her parents and her sister, Lawana L. Fleagle, of Richmond. Born in Shelbyville, IN, Janice grew up in Richmond and was a graduate of Richmond High School in 1956. As part of the first generation of rock and roll, she was known for her love of Elvis Presley, whom she met after his performance in Troy, OH, in 1956. She married the late James L. Jackson III in 1964. Janice was a true woman of the 1970s, successfully balancing both her roles as parent and insurance agent, first with Brandenburg Insurance Agency of Liberty and then with Smith's Insurance and Realty of Brookville. She served as member of the Board of Education for the Union County College Corner Joint School District (Liberty, IN) from 1976 - 1980. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Kappa Delta Phi Women's Club and was Republican Party Precinct Committeeperson for Center Township, Union County. She is survived by her children, James L. Jackson IV (Diana), of Columbus, OH, and Julie L. Amyx (Bill) of Liberty. Janice has four grandchildren, all of whom she was very proud: Ellen Jackson of Oxford, OH, Leah Jackson of Columbus, OH, Brandon Amyx and Jared Amyx, both of Liberty. Janice is also survived by her sister's two sons and one daughter and the niece and nephews of James L. Jackson III. At 7pm, Friday, July 2, a brief memorial service will be held at the Riggle-Waltermann Funeral Home in Richmond, followed by visitation for family and friends until 9pm.
