Obituary

Jeannine Smelser, age 82, of Richmond, died Saturday morning (March 3, 2012) at Friends Fellowship Community. She was born in Richmond on June 10, 1929 to Thomas and Thelma Thomas Keal and had lived here all of her life. She was a 1947 graduate of Richmond High School and served on her class reunion committee and as a member of the Richmond High School Alumni Association. She was a homemaker and had worked for ten years for the Friends Central Office. Jeannine was a life-long member of First Christian Church where she served as Church Historian, as Deaconess and as Worship Committee chairperson. She decorated the church for social events and activities for many years and served in numerous offices including president of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed decorating her home for the seasons and for the holidays of the year, especially Christmas. She was a member of the Richmond Miniature Club where she enjoyed decorating doll houses and room boxes. Jeannine was past president of the former Joseph Moore PTA and was a 50 year member and past president of Gamma Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi National Sorority. She had also served as Regional Director of the Ohio Valley Region for the sorority. She was a former member of Order of Eastern Star, Loyal Chapter #49, where she had served as Worthy Matron. She had also served as Mother Advisor of Richmond Assembly #47 Rainbow for Girls for 15 years. Her husband of 51 years, Charles Smelser, died on November 17, 2001. Her parents and grandparents are also deceased. She is survived by her daughter - Siri Shinn of Richmond. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (March 6, 2012) in Riggle ��" Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Amanda Hines will officiate. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday (March 5, 2012) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
