Obituary

Jerald J. "Jerry" Judge, age 79, of Richmond, died Tuesday afternoon (August 4, 2009) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Walthill, Nebraska on January 12, 1930 to Joseph and Ann James Judge and had lived here since 1966. He was a graduate of Atkinson St. Joseph High School where he played on their basketball team that won 51 games in a row and two state championships (1946 and 1947) and was honored in 1996 as a golden anniversary team by the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Conception Seminary in Conception, Missouri and received a Masters Degree from Fordham University. He was a member of the Benedictine Community from 1952 to 1966. Jerry served as Richmond City Controller under Mayor Byron Klute and then served as administrator for the Richmond Sanitary District under Mayors Frank Waltermann and Roger Cornett. He was a member of Saint Andrew Church. He was also an active member and past chairman of the Wayne County Democrat Party and was a member and founder of the Richmond Sertoma Club where he was recognized as Setoman of the year in 1979 and again in 1993. He had served on the boards of Community Action of East Central Indiana, the Girl's Club, Richmond Civic Theater, and as a member of the Richmond Human Relations Council. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Survivors include his wife - Ann VanPelt Judge whom he married on November 25, 1977; children - Kit (Bruce Hawkins) Judge of Silver Spring, Maryland, Greg (Sharon) Asbury of Lexington, Kentucky, Leslie (Howard) Holbrook of Middletown, Indiana, Jay (Katie) Judge of Cantonsville, Maryland, Gabriel (Lina) Asbury of Wilcox, Arizona; brothers - Larry (Kathy) Judge of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Dan (Marilyn) Judge of Atkinson, Nebraska; sisters - Joann Blohm of Jenks, Oklahoma and Sister Rita Claire OSB of Atchison, Kansas; grandchildren - Katie Estridge, Hallie Holbrook, Grace Asbury, Jackson Hawkins, Grace Kettel, Ana Asbury, Megan Holbrook, Hunter Holbrook; nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, 3 brothers - Jack, Jim and Jene Judge, and a sister, Janet Martin, are also deceased. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday (August 8, 2009) in Saint Andrew Church. Father Todd Riebe will officiate. Burial will be in Saint Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday (August 7, 2009) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Riggle - Waltermann Mortuary.
