John C. Downey, age 73, passed away on Saturday January 3, 2026, at his home. He was born on November 28, 1952, in Kentucky, to Hurlis and Gladys Mays Downey. John was a simple guy, he enjoyed fishing on sunny afternoons, listening to his favorite tunes, and engaging in epic chess battles with his grandkids. Those moments were treasures he cherished deeply, and he will be missed by his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters Jinelle Broaddus, Janna Broaddus and Maria Broaddus; sisters Carolyn, Sherry and Theresa; 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and 1 more on the way; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents John is also preceded in death by brother Everette; sisters Margie and Rhonda and a Step-Father who had basically raised him, Papa John Farr.

Visitation will take place at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary from 3pm-5pm on Friday January 9, 2026, with the service beginning at 5pm.
