It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Allen McConkey, who left us on January 13, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on September 12, 1958, in Richmond, Indiana, John was a lifelong resident of his hometown, known for his kind spirit and unwavering love for Purdue University, where he continued his studies after graduating from Richmond High School in 1976.
John was not just a fan; he was a die-hard Boilermaker through and through.
John was not only known for his die-hard loyalty to Purdue but also for his love of golf. You could often find him swinging clubs on the course or sharing laughs with friends at the Moose Lodge where he was a member for many years. A true lover of live music, he found joy in attending concerts and listening to bands.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Kaitlin Bailey; sister Kathy (Ralph "Pickle") Braughton; 1 grandson and 1 granddaughter; nephew Brian (Sharon) Braughton; great-nephews Adon and Alex; great niece Deianira Katz; several cousins and friends. John is preceded in death by his mother Joyce Killen Lambert; father Dale McConkey; fiancé Darlene Taylor; sister Sue Whited and many aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Help the Animals. Online condolences may be made at
